Adoption of Drought-Tolerant Corn

02/26/2019

Drought-tolerant corn which was developed using conventional breeding and available in 2011 together with genetically engineered cultivars introduced in 2013 are gaining favor in the western edge of the Corn Belt. It is estimated that 22 percent of U.S. corn planted in 2016 included drought-tolerant genes. Within this category, genetically engineered cultivars predominate since they are also herbicide and insect resistant.

Farmers are employing no-till and conservation-till in conjunction with planting drought-resistant seed to optimize yields.
