Selective Medium Enhances Salmonella Recovery

Feb 1, 2017

Dr. Kurt Richardson Chief Science Officer for Anitox presented a poster at the International Poultry Science Forum demonstrating the advantages of a new triple buffered peptone pre-enrichment broth.  This medium demonstrated greater ability to isolate S. Enteritidis, S. Heidelberg, S. Kentucky and S. Typhimurium.

It has been demonstrated that conventional lactose broth buffered peptone becomes acidic during pre-enrichment incubation inhibiting isolation of Salmonella with resulting death rates of 80 to 100 percent of organisms present at pH values ranging from 4.0 to 5.0.
