According to news reports, on Friday, February 3rd the USDA-APHIS removed reports of inspections and other data relating to the welfare of animals in laboratories, zoos and breeding operations.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service responsible for oversight invoked a privacy law for the decision which apparently was a result of a review conducted in 2016 during the previous Administration.

Information which was previously available to the public and more significantly to activist animal rights organizations must now be accessed by using the Freedom of Information Act.

Naturally the USDA decision created vigorous criticism from PETA and the HSUS which have used the information on the USDA-APHIS website for their campaigns against research laboratories, zoos and legitimate dog breeders.
