EU Permits Merger of Dow Chemical and DuPont

Mar 31, 2017

The EU Antitrust Authority has extended conditional approval to the merger of Dow Chemical and DuPont given that the companies will divest businesses and address other concerns relating to monopoly and competition.

Following the $62 billion transaction, the new entity will be restructured as three separate publicly traded companies focusing respectively on agriculture, material science and specialty products.

Margrethe Vestager the official responsible for antitrust activities for the EU stated, “The merger will not reduce price competition for existing pesticides or innovation for safer and better products in the future.”
