Prospects for 2018 El Nino Increase

Apr 14, 2017

Meteorological models suggest that an El Nino of moderate to severe intensity will occur during late 2017 through 2018. This would represent a rapid reversal from the La Nina phenomenon which recently ended.

The predicted the El Nino would follow the 2015 event which resulted in severe drought in sub-Equatorial Africa.

There appears to be concurrence between forecasters in Australia which would be severely impacted, Japan and the U.S. as to the beginning of warming of the Pacific Ocean adjacent to the Northern coast of Chile and Southern Ecuador.

A severe El Nino results in a lessening of monsoon rains in Asia, drought in Australia and Indonesia and heavy rains in Brazil and the Pacific Littoral including Chile and Ecuador.
