In a Reuters report dated February 27th, the Government of South Korea announced that it will extend a scheme to subsidize half the cost of sea transport of imported eggs and egg-products through the end of April.
The shortage of eggs following disposal of 33 million hens due to H7N6 Avian Influenza continues. By February 23rd, the Government of South Korea had spent $570,000 on importation subsidies commencing in mid-January.
Since the decision to allow importation, 805 tons of shell eggs and 837 tons of egg products have been imported out of a quota of 12,000 tons.
