A multi-state outbreak of listeriosis is under investigation by the CDC with soft raw-milk cheese as the implicated vehicle.  Patrons have been hospitalized in Connecticut, Florida, New York and Vermont with two fatalities to date.

Outbreaks of listeriosis, salmonellosis and colibacilosis occurred with disproportionate incidence rates following consumption of raw milk or dairy products manufactured using non-pasteurized milk.

It is enigmatic that advocates of raw milk consumption are still actively opposing laws which limit distribution of raw milk, perpetuating potential milk-borne outbreaks.  Supplying raw milk to children is effectively a form of abuse.
