The National Restaurant Association (NRA) posted the Restaurant Performance Index for February on March 31st. The composite score gained over January to attain a level of 100.7. The Current Situation Index reached 98.8 for the month of February representing a 0.2 increase. This was the fifth consecutive month below 100, reflecting lower same-store sales and customer traffic.
The Restaurant Performance Index was however raised by the Expectation Index which increased to 102.6, the highest since January 2016. According to the NRA, operators of restaurants show increased optimism for growth in sales and the economy. Capital spending plans also reflect a more favorable situation six months hence.
